35 degrees and loving it! January, 2008
Yes! We have your date available! Now the fun begins...
You can find the information we need to complete your Pony Party booking on the Contact Us page.
After we have approved your date and received your party details via email, we hold it for four business days. If at that point no deposit has arrived and your date has other interested parties, we will contact you to ask if you would like to make other arrangements for payment.
We will contact you regarding details on your location, the topography, and the parking.
If you are having a carriage party, please specify on your invitation that the guests come with well-fitting sport helmets.
The ponies will appreciate cut-up carrots or apples as treats between loads.
On the day of the party, we plan on arriving fifteen minutes before your allotted time. It may be better to delay our arrival until a few minutes after the party's scheduled start to allow for late arrivals, but not so late that our service interferes with cake and presents.
Upon arrival, please have payment and release forms ready. We remove the carriage and the ponies and tie the ponies to the side of the trailer for their preparations. At this point the children will probably swarm the carriage - this is perfectly okay, and makes for good photo opportunities as the children will at that time be without their helmets.
As we prepare the ponies, the children may help with their grooming and ask questions...they are not 'bothering' us - this is all part of the fun!
Now we hitch the ponies to the carriage. This takes only a few minutes, and it is imperative that I have your full cooperation as hosts in keeping all children away from the immediate area while I do this.
The one hard and fast rule here is - no one is allowed on the carriage while it is hitched to the ponies, before the driver is mounted and in control of the ponies.
Now for the fun part - having the helmets ready, begin assembling the children in groups of 4 to 6 - how many I take on each ride will depend on how hilly your route. I suggest mixing the sizes of children in each group, so that one older child can be the last to enter and help secure the smaller ones.
The birthday child will ride next to me, up front, for as long as he or she likes.
So that the children are not restrained to standing in line, we will provide color-coded necklaces for each group...this also eliminates double-dipping before every child has a first turn, and the associated discord.
The children can yell, scream or sing as much as they like once they are in the carriage. However, please limit noisy play around the carriage, including guns, caps, sparklers and ball-kicking, and no ambushing the vehicle without the express permission of the driver.
The ponies enjoy being given small treats while the carriage is being reloaded in between trips. Please supervise small children and do not allow them to stand directly in front of the carriage.
If you have elected to have pony rides after the driving, we will need about ten minutes to unhitch and saddle the ponies. Again, questions and 'help' is welcome at this time. For the safety of all involved, please locate noisy and active games in an area away from the ponies. Restrain all dogs to a secure area in your home, one which cannot be easily accessed by a child.
Generally, one pony is giving rides at a time. The other one can be petted, fed (with supervision), grazed, or dressed with ribbons and bows. I give the rides with the ponies walking slightly ahead of me, so that I can have a firm grip on your child as he/she rides. Parents are welcome to walk along on the right hand side if your child is anxious. Don't worry - they all ride sooner or later.
You may want to designate one photographer so that we have one spot where the pony stops and photos are taken. Photos make nice 'thank you's'.
When we are finished and loaded up to go, the birthday boy or girl is welcome to give the ponies their going away cake or treat - the boys think that 'they' are the guests of honor.
